My husband’s grandfather, a Polish-American, and his grandmother, a Hungarian-American, raised my mother-in-law in suburban Cleveland. To honor them during my trip, I googled “Restaurants in Cleveland that serve pierogies”. This search led me to Prosperity Social Club. The website said they opened daily at 4pm and definitely served pierogies. This seemed like the perfect place to take my mom and her friend for an early dinner!
I love this story well told in words and photos. And it illustrates two character traits- actually three- that I admire. 1. Your generosity, to take your mom on a road trip to see her friend and how well you treat them both. 2. Your interest and respect for heritage and family history and customs. And 3. How you make a special occasion even more memorable with just a little intention and a little research. Et voila, the perfect restaurant!
Oh, how I love the food picture! I do love a Polish/German meal with kielbasa, potato pancakes, spaetzele, and red cabbage. This is a charming post, and I know that this was a wonderful dinnertime shared. I used to have a favorite German restaurant in Nashville, but it closed. And when I found out, I nearly cried. Nothing like some authentic European cuisine.
Now that is some serious polish looking food. In Michigan, where I am from, pierogies are very popular. I never took to them, but I love saying the word pierogi and their disc like shape. By adding the accordion performance you are practically at festival level. Love the pics!
Oh, my mouth is watering as I look at your plate of food. I don’t have a lot of experience with Eastern European fare, but this looks delicious. Your mom and her friend are so cute. What a great trip! I have a question. I was looking at the list of food on the Ethnic Plate and trying to match them to the photo. Is there one item that isn’t listed? Maybe mashed potatoes with sauce? Or something else? Thanks for taking us with you to this gem!
Yes! It wasn’t listed on the menu but we did also get a large serving of mashed potatoes with a tomato sauce on top. We definitely got a plateful of yummy food!
I have such fond memories of meals during my three years in Warsaw. We had a helper who made great pierogies- all different kinds. It looks yummy!
